Morwell is an important Gippsland industrial town 149 km s-e of Melbourne. It sits in the heart of the Latrobe Valley - Victoria’s energy centre and is the state’s major electricity producer. Established as a pastoral centre in 1840s, the discovery of brown coal in 1870s altered the settlement’s future with two major power stations constructed between 1950s-70s. Morwell markets each Sun and Morwell NP nearby featuring rainforest pockets, many orchid species & stunning bushwalks.
